The Kelly Clarkson Show Shines at the 2024 Daytime Emmys
Kelly Clarkson’s popular talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” won big at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards. The show took home the award for outstanding daytime talk series for the fourth year in a row. The ceremony took place on June 7 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles and was broadcast on CBS, with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner as hosts.
Over its five seasons, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has won eight Daytime Emmys, showing just how beloved it is. Kelly Clarkson herself has won at least one Emmy each season, a remarkable achievement. During her acceptance speech, Clarkson thanked NBC for supporting her decision to move the show from Los Angeles to New York.
“Thanks to NBC for believing in our show. The fact that NBC, a huge company, took time and listened when I said, ‘Hey, my life is not going super great. I don’t know if I can live here [in L.A.] anymore. I don’t know if I can do this.’ And they really wrapped their arms around us and helped us move. The move has been so great for not just me and my family but our whole show. It takes a lot of time and money and effort to do that. It is not unnoticed. I just want to say thank you for thinking of mental health as well as, you know, a product.
However, Clarkson did not win the outstanding daytime talk series host award this year. That honor went to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, hosts of “Live With Kelly and Mark.” This was a bit of a surprise as Ripa and Consuelos were not even at the event. Ripa has now won this award six times with different co-hosts, showing her versatility and popularity
Another memorable moment from the night was 98-year-old TV legend Dick Van Dyke winning an award for his guest role on “Days of Our Lives,” making him the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever. Van Dyke joked in his speech, “If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.
“Entertainment Tonight” won the award for outstanding entertainment news series for the fifth year in a row. In the culinary category, “Be My Guest With Ina Garten” won its first award, beating out shows like “Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays” hosted by Selena Gomez
The ceremony also included a performance by Amanda Kloots and Jerry O’Connell from “The Talk,” who sang a fun version of Petula Clark’s “Downtown.” There was also an In Memoriam segment honoring late entertainment reporter Sam Rubin and actor Louis Gossett Jr.
Due to last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes, the 2023 Daytime Emmys were delayed, making it feel like less than a year since the last awards. The Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards were held the next day and streamed online.
During this second event, Oprah Winfrey won an award as an executive producer of “Oprah and ‘The Color Purple’ Journey” on Max. Robert Downey Jr. also won his first Emmy as an executive producer of “Downey’s Dream Cars.”
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” added two more Daytime Emmys on Saturday for lighting direction and outstanding live sound mixing and sound editing.
The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards were produced by NATAS and Associated Television International, with Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong as executive producers from NATAS, and David McKenzie from ATI.
